High Performance Partnerships

The University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance is a prime example of how collaboration can achieve transformational outcomes.

This sporting success story has come about because of a strategic partnership between Tauranga City Council, Bay Venues, and the University of Waikato. The University of Waikato is the centre’s tertiary partner. The partnership has enabled the University to be a facilitator of post-graduate sports science education within a high performance sport environment in the Bay of Plenty.

University of Waikato

The University’s 265 m2 of tenancy space includes a purpose-built laboratory, within which can be found a state-of-the-art environmental chamber. The laboratory is used for the purpose of sports science and research as well as athletic performance testing. The hi-tech environmental chamber’s capabilities include the ability to control specific heat and humidity requirements. It can also simulate a high altitude environment. The University’s leading-edge space is staffed by academic professionals specialising in sports science and human performance, with that group including both Masters and PhD students carrying out research. BOP Rugby Union

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union was established in 1911. It has a very proud rugby tradition and heritage. Over the years it has produced many New Zealand representatives in the All Blacks, NZ Maori, NZ 7’s, NZ Women’s Rugby 15’s & 7’s; as well as representative Coaches and support staff at Provincial and International level. They now have what it refers to as a “world class environment to train in, with some of the best facilities in New Zealand” at its disposal. The Centre’s location also works well for their squads. Blake Park’s sporting fields and courts are on the doorstep.
