Tauranga is rapidly becoming a destination for high performance sport due to the establishment of the University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance, the natural advantages our location offers for training and recovery, and our accessibility to world class fields and courts. These include the Trustpower Arena, the Bay Oval and the Sir Gordon Tietjens Field.
The Centre is home to Bay of Plenty Rugby Union and New Zealand Rugby All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens. Emerging developing athletes who represent their sport at regional level or above are also welcome to the Centre through the Adams Academy.
The University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance opened its doors in 2016, thanks to innovative thinking and collaboration between Tauranga City Council, Bay Venues and the University of Waikato. It is the catalyst in transforming Tauranga City into a centre of excellence for high performance sport.
